​The 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament tipped off on Wednesday, March 19, with the First Four matchups setting the stage for an exhilarating March Madness. The day's action featured two compelling games: Iowa State vs. Princeton and Southern University vs. UC San Diego.


Iowa State Triumphs Over Princeton


In a thrilling contest, the Iowa State Cyclones edged out the Princeton Tigers with a final score of 68-63. Princeton's Fadima Tall delivered an impressive performance, leading her team with 19 points. The Tigers dominated the second quarter, entering halftime with a 38-25 lead. However, the Cyclones orchestrated a remarkable comeback in the third quarter. Iowa State's Audi Crooks and Addy Brown were instrumental in this resurgence, contributing 27 and 22 points, respectively. This victory propels Iowa State into the next round, where they will face Michigan. Princeton concludes their season with a commendable 21-8 record.

Southern University Secures Historic Win Against UC San Diego


The Southern University Jaguars made history by clinching their first NCAA Tournament victory, defeating the UC San Diego Tritons 68-56. The Jaguars established dominance early in the game, with Soniyah Reed making a significant impact off the bench, leading all scorers with 24 points. Despite a valiant effort from UC San Diego, highlighted by Sumayah Sugapong's 19 points, Southern maintained control throughout the game. With this win, the Jaguars advance to face the top-seeded UCLA in the upcoming round.
